Culinary Arts: Paris
Updated: 29 Apr, 2025
Here are a few places I recommend in Paris, France. Bourdain showed everyone the beauty of this life - cheers to that motherfucker, you are indeed a fuck - and I do everything I can to live my life as close this artform as I can get.
Tip: the closer you get to the flame, Monday's are out -- check the times. As with every rule, there are a few exceptions...
PTB.PARIS: Culinary Arts - Google Maps: https://goo.gl/maps/MNaEKi9c6kGXCpPMA There are many places on the map not yet covered -- all are treasures.
Les enfants du marché
High-concept seafood & natural wines featured in a laid-back eatery within a historic food market
One of my favorite places in Paris. The proprietor, staff and chefs are all rock stars. Just go, and no matter the line, if they tell you to wait, wait. And, if they have the fatty tuna, thank me later.

Music: Yes; rock 'n roll

Ryô
Sushi
Just incredible. If you have spent any time in Paris, and eat a lot of sushi, you will have found a uniform preparation and grade of tuna, salmon and mackerel sashimi, nigiri and maki are the norm. And this is actually a good thing if raw fish is your jam. Close your eyes and recall Sesame Street; this one is unlike the others. The eel is their "soufflé," and will take 15 minutes. Reservation recommended and check the hours.

Early Bird Coffee
Coffee, tea, coffee & tea supplies, chocolate & assorted imported canned & bottled goods
This is my favorite coffee roaster in Paris. The owner's name is Joseph, and he has one of the few places in Paris you will hear music. It will most likely be The Dead. He's traveled the world, and is a true gentleman. The shop sits inside the Le marché couvert Beauvau, so bring your tote bags. Tell him Parker and Tiffani sent you.
Neighborhood: border of 11/12
Music: Yes; The Dead

Covered outdoor marketplace with permanent vendors selling cheese, meat, seafood, spices, fresh pasta and more. It's home of my favorite cheese and seafood shops in Paris.

Marché d'Aligre
Lively farmers market that sits outside Le marché couvert Beauvau. Bring cash. Hours are shorter and differ from Le marché couvert Beauvau. Closed Mondays.
Neighborhood: border of 11/12
Music: No; Classical guitar buskers sometimes on weekends

CLOSED
Chapel
Pain au Levain & Pâtisseries de Spécialité + Coffee
Insanely unique and delicious sweet and savory baked goods and homemade ferments. If you buy more than a few things, you can put a deposit down for a metal box that has hand drawn cartoons by the head baker reminiscent of Crumb crossed with Daniel Johnson vibes. You can either keep it, or exchange it for another on your next trip. They also make and sell coffee by Friedhats of Amsterdam. Same drill, you can put a deposit down for a large medicine bottle from Friedhats and can keep it, or bring it back for a refill. Legitimate modern day take on where the Parisian Slacker gets their baked goods for any Austinite or purveyor of filmmaking out there.

Fréquence
Killer cocktails and tapas alongside a sweet collection of vinyl spun on a superb sound system. The move is to stop by around 1800, and before you do, pop in to Le Petit Keller down the street to see if they will seat you when they open at 1930. It's a gamble, but worth it. Closed Mondays.

Bread and Pastry... generally speaking...
Seriously, the bread only lasts 12 hours, 24 max here. This is true for anything you buy at a Boulangerie or Patisserie. When walking, look for Boulangerie or Patisserie on the signage. Go in, find something pretty, buy it and eat it. You'll win some, you'll lose some. Whatever you do, don't hold on to it, and take it back to your hotel unless you plan on eating it immediately and have butter or olive oil on hand. If you are coming over and bringing bread, just text me.
